Where can you
get assistance for
translations?
The correct way to to translate official documents such as birth certificates, certificates
of marriage and diploma’s is through an officially registered translator.
After translation
of an official document you will need to visit the court of law under which the translator
is registered. After obtaining an official stamp there, further legalisation has to be
obtained from Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Finally, the Embassy
(or consulate) of the country concerned, needs to approve with a legalisation stamp. In The Netherlands you can visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore
in Rotterdam.
To our knowledge, no such registered translator for translations from English to
Dutch or Dutch to English, is available in Singapore.
Until now the Embassy has been offering this translation service because of the
high demand for such translations of Dutch documents for use in Singapore.
Since the creation of unofficial translations is not part of the core activities of an
Embassy, and due to the amount of Dutch citizens and related increased work pressure
at the consulate department, the Embassy has decided to put a halt to this activity.
The Embassy will only offer service for English translation of your Dutch drivers
license.
If you would like to have documents translated, you can contact Mrs Caroline De
Bruycker. After translation of a document, you will need to bring it to the Embassy to
obtain a separate declaration complete with service stamp, stating it to be an unofficial
translation of a source document.
Mrs Caroline De Bruycker can be contacted at 6404 1164.
